More info on NAC and Alcohol associated hepatitis

The largest randomized controlled trial of NAC in alcohol-associated hepatitis (PMID 22070475) demonstrated an improvement in 30-day survival but did not show an effect on the primary outcome of 6-month survival. If a decision is made to use this, the dosing is the same as for acetaminophen (with the third infusion rate run to complete the full duration of therapy). Therapy is provided for 5 days. NAC, if used, should only be given in conjunction with steroids.
