Screening for hepatocellular carcinoma
ultrasound and blood tests done every 6 months
Reducing the risk of decompensation
Non-selective beta-blockers may be considered to reduce the risk of decompensation. Treating hepatitis c, hepatitis b, autoimmune liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcohol related fatty liver disease.
Screening for varices
If certain criteria are met, some patients may need a gastroscopy to screen for varices
Nutrition and Exercise
- Eat something every 4 hours including a late-evening snack
- Protein with every meal and snack
- Regular exercise
Avoid all alcohol intake
All patients should avoid alcohol intake even if it isn’t the cause of their liver disease
